Musical wrap-up

Tags:

Inspired by the nice CD I got from Laura and Angélica full with music that made me nostalgic and visit Colombia right away, I thought I post here a few songs that I ran across during my trip and that will definitely remind me of this travels every time I hear them. :)

  • Miranda – Perfecta I ran across the first time in Mexico. Weird but somehow appealing video by this Argentinean group… and a catchy tune while maybe not the greatest song. ;) Here one can hear the nice Argentinian “sho” instead of “yo”. :D
  • Juanes – Gotas de Agua Dulce (not the original video) I first time heard in the radio in Costa Rica… with the typical Juanes (COL) sound. First time reminding me that while the music scene in Latin America is much different than in Europe, but some artists just span through all that.
  • Celia Cruz – Guantanamera was never the original version I heard the four old Ticos in Cahuita sing, but always a live version with guitar and all singing. Not just this song but many many classical Latin songs (that I unfortunately mostly did not know). Music there was at its best: Live, spontaneous, personal, involving, bridging cultures and joyful. Bob Marley would have been overjoyed.
  • Calle 13 – Atrevete-te was probably played multiple times when going out in Bogotá. Great song from the Puerto Rican duo I had never heard anything of before… well, execpt of Suave. Anyways, now it is fun to hear the lyrics with the nice Puelto Lican accent that does not pronounce ‘s’ (like all the Carib Spanish) and says ‘l’ instead ‘r’. :)
  • Akon – Don’t Matter I had heard and liked before, but it became very special when being in Brazil, sitting on the porch/terrasse at night and hearing the tune blasting from a radio in the neighbouring houses. Really tropical feeling and only thing missing for that atmosphere was somebody to sit there with.
  • Graça Cunha provided a live performance with Elpídio Bastos for nice MPB. I will remember that one as much as all the dancing in the crowd
  • Maná – Rayando del Sol (and other songs) the first time consciously crossed my ears on the bus to Bariloche in Argentina, when they showed the whole Unplugged DVD. I am sure that this classic Mexican group was accompanying all my voyage, but from there on their sound would be recognised by me. And also, it seemed like the Argentinians again more tend towards rock than the others. That seemed to run in parallel with the level of “allegrity” that decreases towards the poles…
  • Nigga – Te Quiero also ran on full airplay in Argentina, showing their love for Reggeaton, Cumbia, Rock and other genres in the clubs for dancing. And the club scene in Buenos Aires is definitely special with people going out around 2-3 o’clock and coming home at 6-8 o’clock… :D

I hope you enjoy watching the videos as much as I do. And maybe you got some inspiration. Otherwise I just wanna point to the great Putumayo series… :)
