So this week(end) there were two festivals here in Oslo. The Jazz Festival and the Mela Festival for exchange of southern cultures.
From the jazz side, theer was some nice concerst but all were rather expensive, which is why I had to miss out on those (mostly). Mela, however, was free and so I spent some time to see some nice performances. (WARNING: the videos are really low res.)
Friday night I managed to still see Arif Lohar.
Then, the interesting part for me was to see Ras Nas playing soukous on Saturday, but mainly then Sunday evening. I just came in time to see Lulendo playing his electronic likembe. He was followed by Zikalo and the Serebas whom I had already seen once before, but this time they were playing great Coupe-Decale and Soukous so they were my highlight of the evening. Then, tey were followed by a Norwegian Salsa band, that was as well nice to listen and dance to. The evening ended then with a real big bang when Sahara entered the stage and the place – crowded with Indians – went mad. They played great Bhangra music, at least what I as a non-connaisseur can tell, and the crowd loved them. Well, I did too.
So, now I have some new artists where I have to find CDs from. Great festival. :)
