I just looked at all the videos of the Apple iPhone and I just gotta say that it is the interaction designer’s wet dream. Not only did Apple once again show that there is a point in controlling every part in a chain but also that compromises are bad. Concepts usually only work well if they are taken the full way and no half baked solutions. Apple just understood that the key is not to try to spread and satisfy everybody but to do something great and then just wait and see. I love the interface they showed, I love their way to interact with the device, I love the small details with sensors, I love their browser and widgets and I love their way to deal with mail (maybe not so SMS but well…), I love their Google maps.
So I’m excited to see what Nokia, SonyEricsson, Samsung and others will do as a reaction. I mean you can’t just simply copy all of that – however you could bully the innovative part out of the market with conservative business. ;)
Exciting times.
