Mail.app annoyance pt. xy

Tags:

Just spent at least 1.5 hours just in reactivating my system because Apple is still not able to create a proper Mail.app. Since ages they know about its problems but they dont get fixed and that just pisses me off. That is why I will now also spread the word here… and also to vent my anger at that company that usually creates so good software.

So what is the problem? Well, if you see that your disk that Mail.app uses has no free space, don’t do anything in Mail anymore. Backup your Preference file (~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist) on another drive and then quit Mail.app. Then just hope and try to get some free space on that drive, because if you – assumingly since you have this problem – have your home folder there, resarting will also lead you into a new user folder and not your own one otherwise. Really scary. Made me start single-user mode (command+s at booting) and trying to bend that stuff in the UNIX foundations. Didn’t work, so don’t bother trying that. Rather just free enough space (well, 1MB is too little, 500MB should be enough) and restart. In case that your home folder is still not loaded, free a bit more space till and restart. Do this until your home is mounted again. It will, if there is enough. When this is done, just copy the Mail preferences back into the ~/Library/Preferences/ and all schould be sweet and cheesy.

Well, at least most other apps don’t just loose their prefs, but still.

Good luck!

AND YOU APPLE: FIX THAT DARN THING! ALL YOUR APPS HAVE PROBLEMS WITH RECOVERING/STORING PREFS WHEN THE DISK IS FULL!!!!!!
