Happy new 2006 to you all!
I wish you all the best for the dawning year. May we all enjoy a good year filled with love, care and health – a year to remind humanity of all the good things in the world.
A short summary of the last days of 2005:
After celebrating Christmas with my family and meeting a couple of my friends in and around Feldkirch, I joined my brother on his trip to Munich. Was a nice trip with our small car – I really enjoyed driving that Fiat Punto again. Arriving in Munich I met Max and his girlfriend before they moved back to Holland. Haven’t seen him for a year now and I have never met her before. So it was really fun and interesting to see the whole gang. We spent a while searching a business suit for Max. Seven people and a dozen opinions, so we ended up buying nothing. ;)
Then, I was presented the flat of my brother… really nice. RSPCT. Really nice hallway he has. Did some shopping in Munich and made Buchteln (my favourite meal) for him. They turned out great… best ones I ever made. Yummy. Also helped his friend with a web site and Macrobe Dreamweaver. Annoying program that is.
Travelled on to Salzburg (Pfarrwerfen) from there and used the time in the train to get some work done (net worth 15 min.) and to enjoy the sight on beautiful snowy landscapes from the warm railway wagon. Exiting train I was ambushed welcomed by Manu and her family. We talked a lot and ate (and ate a bit more) and then went for a sledging trip. Not too big, but sill terrific fun since it had been a while since my last time. Tremendous landscape, night, stars, trees, half a meter snow and a couple of degrees centigrade below zero. And then forty kph. Yay! Chatted a bit more in the warm house again, updated each other with study news and other things. She talked me into buying a Canon EOS 350D… (still considering, but highly tempted. So if someone wants to sell one cheaply, let me know). And danced a bit Salsa.
Left the next morning (cold, very cold) by train to meet Don Huberto my godfather on the way home. Had lunch with him and talked a lot (well, my part of that was definitely bigger) and had a stroll outside. It was around -15°C and I kinda was not prepared for temperatures less than minus five. Well, we survived but now I at least had a bit of winter. The fact that the trains were 150 and 100 minutes late did not make it better. Well, luckily I could take the one (called Fachhochschule Vorarlberg) that was suppose. Still, it was crowded. Cold or crowded: pick one. I chose crowded. ;) After reading a couple more pages of Asimov’s Foundation we arrived at Feldkirch central station, where my dad fetched me so that I skipped waiting for an hour there as well. Well, it was warmer there again. Anyway, Austrian public transport is the suck.
Yesterday, New Years Eve I finally met Gardi and his girlfriend again. Was fun, we went shopping for the Fondue we were about to eat that evening. Since everything here closed at 14:00 we had to bring our money to the neighbouring country of Switzerland. Well, we are NOT sorry for that – lazy Austrians! The evening then was cool, we went to a fellow student’s home and made the Fondue. Was extremely good and cheesy. We had bought too little, but luckily he managed to get more cheese. Pure cheese. A mixture. Warmed it up, added a bit of white wine and flour and ready was the cheesy gold. Yum! Best Fondue ever; ate till we burst, still suffered from it today, but it was worth it. And yeah, there was a year shift so we had some rockets to blast. Hung out a bit longer and went home. Conclusion: not as good as last year, but better than quite a few year changes. Good start there.
So today went for lunch with my parents – tradition. All day went pretty traditionally with the walk later on and me then hanging around at home trying to finally get some work done. Well, now I do. :)
The plan for the next days: Tomorrow a bit more shopping, travelling to Zurich. The day after I’m supposed to meet a PhD student from the Uni Zurich because of my diploma thesis. Gonna be interesting. The day after my train will leave to the North again (hope to see Dee before that). And on Thursday I’ll be back home. Funny enough I felt today that I was longing to arrive there again. Not because of having enough of being here in Feldkirch, but because of the people and the city. That’s a nice feeling and so I realised that I feel at home there. Thanks to all of you for that.
Take care.
Prosit!
