Ok, finally my ultra dancing weekend is over. It’s late Sunday evening/early Monday morning and time to go to bed. My body is tired to the bones. Nothing really serious, except some joints (elbows, knees) that ache a bit from too much waving and stepping. It just feels like after a weekend with a lot of motion. It somehow was: Workshop on Saturday 3 hours of Reggeaton/Afrocuban/Rumba, same on Sunday (but also some Son). Additionally it was Club Scratch (live DJing and scratching) on Saturday night and Salsa classes (and club) on Sunday evening.
The workshop was great. High tempo music and learning. The Reggaeton was too much of choreography for my taste. The Afrocuban music was just great. Sometimes difficult to hear the rhythm and even harder to move the shoulders all the time, but worst there was to focus on arms and legs at the same time. Exhausting, rhythmic and a great experience. It was more than just great and I’d love to do more of that. The Cuban Rumba was kinda fun but after 2.5h of exhausting workout in front of a mirror (I still can’t see myself dancing) it was pretty hard. On sunday the difficulty was to remember anything from the day before. After a while things reappeared in my mind and it was cool. However, after another 1.5h session I pretty much felt like “gimme a break, let’s do freestyle”. Worst thing really was to get the steps – mainly the arms – right since the teacher (a Cuban) didn’t explain too much but just said “do what I do”.
The Salsa class and club seemed like a school-trip compared to the workshop. It was nice and I learned not that much in class but quite a bit in the dancing afterwards since I danced with some older, more experienced ladies. Confusing and arrhythmic some times but fun. One of the advantages of doing the workshop was that I met some more advanced people there so I know now advanced ladies to show me more Salsa moves. :)
